Passionate Albany bowler TIM SCOTT is writing a fortnightly column for The Extra, keeping our readers up-to-date with the local bowls scene.

Emu Point Red have continued their recent dominance and completed the four-peat of division one pennants in the Lower Great Southern Bowling League after a commanding grand final win over Middleton Beach Gold.

Earlier, Middleton Beach Gold caused a major upset in the second semifinal to move straight into the grand final with a surprise 61-46 win over Emu Point Red, while Albany Gold eliminated Denmark with a massive 81-29 win the first semifinal.

This set up a preliminary final contest with Emu Point Red who released some frustration to easily account for Albany Gold 73-37.

The grand final saw the class and depth of Emu Point Red emerge as they again claimed the pennant over Middleton Beach Gold with a comprehensive 63-43 triumph.

Emu Point Red will enter next season attempting to match the five-peat from a Middleton Beach Gold side between 2012 and 2016.

Recently promoted Mt Barker Golf Red had to win the second division pennant the hard way after they lost the second semifinal to Albany Green 63-52 and Albany Brown defeated Mt Barker Golf White 62-54 to end White’s season.

In the preliminary final, Golf Red withstood the challenge from Brown, who were attempting to set up a derby grand final, with a 10-point triumph, 58-48.

Golf Red proved their status as the leading division two side with a comprehensive 70-44 grand final win over Albany Green to claim a much-deserved pennant.

The men’s third division saw Middleton Beach White defeat Denmark 67-51 in the second semifinal and Green Range end Frankland’s year with a victory in the first semifinal.

Denmark then took care of Green Range in the preliminary final and backed it up to beat favourites and recently promoted Middleton Beach White in the grand final 70-54 to claim the pennant.

Emu Point’s Yvonne Shalders beat Albany’s Nancy Sharpe to win the ladies league singles title.

A huge thanks to all bowlers for the support, commitment, sportsmanship and quality bowls throughout the season. Safe travels during the off season and see you all on the greens next season.
