Passionate Albany bowler TIM SCOTT is writing a fortnightly column for The Extra, keeping our readers up to date with the local bowls scene.

Emu Point Red maintained their lead after round six of ladies first division in the Lower Great Southern Bowling League with a strong win at home.

They finished winners over Denmark Aqua 4 (52) to 0 (41) while reigning pennant holders Mt Barker Golf suffered their third defeat in a row after being narrowly beaten in a thriller by an impressive Middleton Beach Green 3 (42) to 1 (41).

This continues a worrying trend for the reigning champs who will look to bounce back to form with an away clash against Emu Point Purple.

In the remaining games, the second place Mid Beach White took care of Emu Point Purple 4 (43) to 0 (30) as Albany Gold recorded consecutive victories, downing Albany Green 3 (43) to 1 (36).

In ladies seconds division, ladder leaders Cranbrook had a bye as Mt Barker Golf claimed a valuable away win over Middleton Beach Red 4 (44) to 0 (34) while Denmark Orange were also able to claim an away win, beating Emu Point Blue 3 (38) to 1 (33).

In men’s first division action, Denmark shot to the top of the ladder with a massive 50-shot win over a disappointing Mt Barker, 6 (85) to 0 (35), while Emu Point Red were far too good for local rivals Emu Point Purple 5 (76) to 1 (45).

Middleton Beach Green accounted for Middleton Beach Black 5 (67) to 1 (58) and Albany Gold, who lost two rinks for the third week in a row, were again able to get the points at home over Mid Beach Gold 4 (65) to 2 (60).

The stand-out round five clash will be between reigning three-time pennants holders Emu Point Red who will host Albany Gold.

The second division highlights were Albany Brown producing a great performance away from home to defeat Mt Barker Golf White 5 (65) to 1 (55) while Albany Green easily accounted for Albany Grey 5 (82) to 1 (46).

Emu Point White won their first game of the season, with a big win over Walpole 6 (81) to 0 (33), while ladder leaders Mt Barker Golf Red travelled to Cranbrook and came away with the win 5 (65) to 1 (55).

Middleton Beach White remains the only undefeated side in men’s third division after they had a big win over Albany White 6 (71) to 0 (45), while the second-placed Denmark accounted for Green Range at home 5 (64) to 1 (49).

Middleton Beach Lime got the points with a forfeit over Mt Barker Golf Blue while Frankland were most impressive with a great away win over Mt Barker 6 (60) to 0 (41).
