Scorchers to contest final

Albany Advertiser

The Scorchers will have an opportunity to defend their Albany Junior Cricket Association under-16 title after winning their way to the grand final against Tigers this Sunday.

In a virtual elimination final for the remaining place in the season decider, Scorchers progressed at the expense of Kings thanks to a superb run chase.

Chasing the Kings’ total of 8-182, Scorchers passed the target only five wickets down, going on to amass 276.

Kings seamer James Plowman impressed with three early strikes to leave Scorchers at 3-45, but from there, the middle order of captain Ted Batchelor (38 from 24 balls) and Aubin Spurr (74 from 65) took control of the run chase.

Earlier in the day, opener Michael Ferreira was run out on 34 and brother Matthew added 38 from 43 balls, but wickets steadily fell as Kings finished on 8-182 from their 45 overs, with captain Oscar Gilbert finishing unbeaten on 37 from as many balls.

The defending premiers have not beaten Tigers this season, with the minor premiers only suffering one loss this season, to the Kings in November.

Tigers finished the regular season with a 115-run win over Warriors last Sunday after booking their place in the season decider weeks earlier.

The grand final will be held at Hard North from 11.30am this Sunday
