Scissorhands Barber: E-scooters stacked to form blockade in front of Albany shop leaves owner frustrated

A row of 11 e-scooters topped with two witch’s hats greeted Kathy Wolfe as she arrived to open her shop Scissorhands Barber on Friday morning, the latest in a series of issues the hire vehicles have been causing at her business. Ms Wolfe has been dealing with badly parked scooters near the shop she owns for almost six weeks, blocking entrances and being a general nuisance. “I’m just so frustrated, I’m writing a letter to the council,” she said. “I’ve put a sign up saying ‘do not park scooters in this spot’ and later caught someone parking a scooter.” “I asked if they could take it away and find another spot.” Ian Sinclair from Bird Scooters arrived to scan and collect the scooters, saying the Bird Scooters at the very least had been dragged, not ridden, from different locations to the front of the salon. One scooter had been dragged from Six Degrees, and another from Spencer Park. “It says to me this was deliberate, that they didn’t even ride the scooters here, just dragged and dumped them,” Mr Sinclair said. Ms Wolfe has contacted police and the City of Albany regarding the incident. Bird and Beam Mobility both began their 12-month trials of hiring out the electronic scooters in the City late last year, through which they were approved to deploy up to 200 e-scooters by the council.
