Ruby Princess passenger Albany’s first confirmed case of COVID-19

The Great Southern has recorded its first two confirmed cases of COVID-19. The Advertiser understands the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the region — announced on Tuesday — involved an Albany woman who was a passenger on the infamous Ruby Princess cruise ship. The Ruby Princess docked in Sydney on March 19. More than 130 of its passengers have tested positive. It is understood the woman returned to Albany last week. A WA Health spokeswoman said contact tracing was under way. Health Minister Roger Cook revealed yesterday it was believed 47 of WA’s 205 confirmed cases were infected on a cruise ship. WA has recorded 65 new cases in the past two days, including the first two cases in the Great Southern and first two cases in the Wheatbelt.
