Robert Kenneth Green fined for obscene act in Albany carpark

A man has been fined for performing an obscene act in front of a woman while she was on a Zoom meeting on her phone in a carpark on Mt Melville. Robert Kenneth Green, 57, pleaded guilty to one charge of obscene acts in public in Albany Magistrates Court last Thursday. Police prosecutor Sgt Dave Loverock told the court Green drove to a carpark on Mt Melville about 6.30pm on April 15, where the 41-year-old female victim was sitting alone in her car, participating in a Zoom meeting. Green exited his vehicle and walked past the victim’s car “noting she was alone”, Sgt Loverock said. Sgt Loverock said Green then stood about 15m from the woman’s car, lifted his shirt to reveal he was wearing a red lacey lingerie top, dropped his pants to his ankles and started masturbating. Green called out to the victim “several times” before approaching her car after about 10 minutes. The victim only noticed the accused when he opened her door and stood next to the car, his pants still around his ankles and the obscene act ongoing. After realising what he was doing, the woman panicked, slammed her door shut and drove away. Police arrested Green at the scene and brought him to Albany Police Station where he made “full admissions”, telling police he was supposed to be meeting the wife of a former sexual partner for a sexual encounter. Speaking in court, Green said he was “so sorry” to the “innocent person” he offended on the night of the incident. “I am disgusted and appalled by my actions,” he said. Magistrate Dianne Scaddan said the court was not there to judge people on private consensual activities in their own homes, but the incident was in a public place. Ms Scaddan said the victim was “probably startled, upset and rightfully concerned”. “People don’t want to be subject to that behaviour in public,” she said. Green was fined $2000 and ordered to pay court costs of $134.50.
