Up-and-coming Albany driver Brooke Watson produced a dominant performance at Mt Barker’s Les Gorman Park last Saturday afternoon, on her way to winning the Bendigo Bank junior feature.

Watson, a third-generation speedway driver, was too strong in the 10-lap junior sedan final as she led every lap to cross the line 8.742 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

It capped a terrific day for the young Watson, who was successful in one of her qualifying heats and ran second in the other two heat races.

Brody Day finished off the final well to claim second place while Taj Coleman impressed to also finish on the podium.

Fourth place went to Lexie Smith, who was the only other car to complete all 10 laps.

Mitchell Claybrook won the opening heat race, but had dramas in the final to be credited with sixth place while Nui Andrews, who was successful in heat 3, was down in eighth spot, retiring after four laps.

Newcomer Olivia Smith won the chief stewards award in the junior sedans.

In the support classes, Vincent Jenkins took top honours in the street stocks after strong heat results and victory in the final.

Bill Penn comfortably won the production sedans while Kevin Bell prevailed overall in the super sedans.

Mt Barker’s next race meet will be held on February 11 featuring the Ronnie J Street Stock Feature and open club championships.
