Relaxed afternoon activities planned for Australia Day in Denmark

Denmark will be able to celebrate Australia Day well into the evening at the Kwoorabup Festival in Berridge Park. Markets, live music, food vendors and children’s activities will all be on hand on the banks of the Denmark River from 4pm. The Shire of Denmark has encouraged families to come along and bring their own water bottles, crockery and cutlery to take advantage of the festival setting by having a picnic. The festival will culminate in a free outdoor screening of family friendly movie Minions: The Rise of Gru. Shire of Denmark council made a decision in September that its annual citizen and sportsperson of the year awards would be held in May during National Volunteer Week rather than on Australia Day. It made the decisions based partly on feedback from people who said they “were not supportive of receiving the award at a function held during an Australia Day event”.
