Royals Saints 1 are the only team undefeated in the Albany Netball Association A1 competition after a gritty win in their top-of-the-table clash with Railways 1 on Saturday before going on win to win a tight Sunday clash with Magpies 1. In a weekend of double-header fixtures, Royals Saints and Railways both went into the clash undefeated but the reigning premiers had the edge over Railways from the first whistle. The first quarter proved decisive in the 42-34 result, as Royals Saints netted 13 goals to six to set up the victory. Railways tried everything they could to get back in the game outscoring the premiers 11-8 in the third term but both teams scored netted 19 second half goals as Royals Saints prevailed by eight goals. Magpies 1 are still searching for their first win of 2020 after giving Royals Saints a scare in round six on Sunday. After a tight opening half, Magpies won the third term to only trail by a single goal heading into the last quarter but Royals Saints hung on to record a 40-36 win. Railways played their Sunday fixture last Tuesday night against Narrikup 1, clinging on in the second half to win a thriller 31-29 after leading by six goals at half time. A dominant first half from Narrikup on Saturday against Grammar 1 set up their third win of the season. Narrikup almost tripled Grammar’s score in the first term and by half time had opened up a commanding 25-8 advantage before they went on to win by 23 goals, 46-23. Kangas 1 notched their first victory of the season in Saturday’s other fixture, downing the Magpies 38-31 while on Tuesday Grammar beat Kangas 38-27 to sit on equal points with Narrikup on the ladder.
