Record breaking sail delayed

Albany Advertiser

Queensland sailor Lisa Blair, who was set to depart Albany today on a record breaking trip around Antarctica, has been delayed due to electrical issues with her yacht.

If Ms Blair completes the trip she will be the first ever female to circumnavigate Antarctica and she has her sights set on the world record time of 102 days, set by Russia’s Fedor Konyukhov.

Ms Blair said she became aware of the electrical issue yesterday.

“It was OK on Friday but then when we did the checks yesterday there was a problem,” she said

“I’ll have to wait till tomorrow before I can order in the parts and depending on how long that takes we can reassess.

“The aim is now for Wednesday but nothing is set in stone.”
