This broadbill swordfish is believed to be the first caught off Albany.

Albany’s Jack Dawson caught the giant on Monday.

He said the massive catch was a surreal and humbling experience.

"They are such magnificent and mysterious creatures. I honestly never thought I would have the privilege of catching one from my own boat out of my own town on the south coast of WA," he said.

"From what I’ve been told this is the first recreationally caught swordfish to be boated out of Albany, Xiphias gladius, the true oceanic predator."
