Railways notch first win of A-grade season with spirited display against Manypeaks in round 10 of ADCA comp

A courageous 91-run knock from Railways captain Coen Marwick fired his side to their first win of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association A-grade competition on Saturday. The Tigers were 19-run winners over Manypeaks at Turf East after a superb batting innings set them up for a long-awaited victory in the round 10 clash. Marwick was the hero with the bat as the Tigers posted their biggest total of the season with 8-215 before the captain showed his versatility with the ball to ensure they got over the line. The Tigers were staring down the barrel of an eighth consecutive loss in the early stages, with Peaks’ Kane Pinney snaring two early scalps in the form of Milan Jaggi (2) and Jordan Gibbs (0). However, a fighting 63-run partnership between Mohit Jaggi (21) and Marwick settled things for the bottom side. Paul Donaldson claimed Mohit Jaggi’s wicket before Mitchell T’Hart followed him to the sheds shortly after for a duck. Billy O’Meara (12 runs off 40 balls) was caught off the bowling of Ryan Kinnear, bringing Lachie Tindale to the crease. Tindale whacked 38 off 56 balls in a great cameo as part of a 163-run stand with Marwick before the latter was finally removed in the 42nd over, nine runs short of a century. Marwick hit three sixes and five fours in his 91 from 104 balls. while a late-order contribution from Sam Slater pushed the Tigers beyond 200. Pinney was outstanding with the ball to finish with 4-39 and Donaldson played a solid supporting role with 2-27. Peaks opener Regan Poett started strongly with 48 but wickets fell around him as Kieran Howie (5), Seb Stanton (23) and Donaldson (2) were all dismissed before drinks. Poett was trapped in front two runs short of a half-century and Pinney was out for 13 eight overs later, both trapped in front by Jaggi to leave the score at 5-133. James Bottomley (11) and Warwick Durack (34no) dug in with a 37-run partnership before Ryan Tindale had Bottomley out lbw. Peaks’ lower order failed to fire as they lost 3-21 to be all out for 196, sparking joyous celebrations from the Tigers contingent. Marwick was the pick of the bowlers with 3-25, while Milan (2-30) and Mohit Jaggi (2-38) also contributed strongly. Peaks now sit 10 points adrift of third-placed Mt Barker on the A-grade standings.
