Railways junior Coen Jackman’s hard work has paid off as the exciting 19-year-old forward made a winning debut for Claremont’s league side in round eight of the WAFL competition on Saturday. Jackman was called up to the side at the 11th-hour and the young key forward mixed it with the best as he faced off against a West Coast Eagles side that included AFL premiership players Dom Sheed, Liam Ryan and Willie Rioli. The Tigers overcame a shaky start to continue their strong WAFL form, beating the Eagles by 38 points at Revo Fitness Stadium. Jackman booted two goals in a memorable first league outing, finishing with five disposals, three tackles and one inside-50 as his side won their sixth game of the season. Ex-North Albany midfielder and Tigers captain Declan Mountford enjoyed a top afternoon with 22 disposals, four inside 50s, four marks and two tackles in the 13.10 (88) to 7.8 (50) victory. Royals and Albany product Tyron Smallwood racked up 15 disposals, two goals and two inside 50s in a lively display for the winners. Railways’ Bailey Bennett contributed strongly with two goals, eight disposals and three inside 50s while Borden’s Anthony Davis finished with 10 disposals, three tackles and four marks across half-back. Meanwhile, Ongerup’s Angus Dewar had 16 disposals, two tackles and two inside 50s in Subiaco’s 12.9 (81) to 10.7 (67) league triumph against Perth on Saturday.
