Race on for Albany’s best Melbourne Cup event
The race that stops the nation will get the party started in Albany on Tuesday as venues around the city prepare for one of their biggest days of the year.
The Melbourne Cup is the most prestigious event on Australia’s racing calendar and a cherished opportunity for fashion-lovers to dress to the nines.
The White Star Hotel will be showing the race live, running sweeps and hosting its own race for best-dressed.
White Star events and restaurant manager Laura Schuster said the Melbourne Cup was one of the venue’s biggest days of the year, with up to 150 people expected to walk through the doors.
“It is such a fun day for every-body,” she said.
“Everyone comes in for the race and then we go from there and play games, have music and amazing canapes.
“You don’t get to dress up like this every day.”
Three Anchors is also going all-out with coverage of the event at a two-course luncheon.
Due South plans to show the Cup on nine screens, with local musician Rob Vermeulen set to keep the party going after the race.
Hybla Tavern will roll out the red carpet for guests and have live entertainment after the race.
Six Degrees is opening at 10am for those wanting to start the celebrations early.
The Earl of Spencer will offer two hours of unlimited prosecco at its high tea-style ticketed event.
Stirling Club is putting on a three-course lunch.
