Promising Filly Strathmore Rose scores scorching maiden win for in-form Albany trainer Roy Rogers

Trainer Roy Rogers says three-year-old filly Strathmore Rose has huge upside after her stunning maiden win in Albany on Monday. Rogers continued his white-hot form this season with a double on the seven-race rescheduled meeting and the battle with close rival Steve Wolfe remains strong after Wolfe also saddled up two winners. Strathmore Rose blitzed her rivals in the Platinum Tiger Insurance Brokers Maiden (1100m), displaying a powerful sprint home to record a remarkable winning margin of 7.8 lengths. The War Chant filly was first-up from a break and jumped third favourite but proved far too good for her rivals after leading throughout for apprentice Madi Derrick and surging clear in the straight to defeat stablemate Halatorion. Strathmore Rose ran an impressive second by a head on debut at Ascot but went shin sore after finishing towards the rear at her second start. “She is still very green but I always thought she would go well,” Rogers said. “I think she goes as well as Island Charm. “It will be good to have two nice three-year-old fillies that we can look at for nice races in the future. “She only got beaten a head on debut and Shooter (Shaun McGruddy) was very happy with her but she went shin sore the next run. “This was like her trial racing first-up and it was quite impressive; she pulled up a treat and will run again on Sunday.” Strathmore Rose was the second leg of a double for Rogers after Feels Hot broke through in the opening event on the program. Feels Hot kicked strongly in the straight to prevail over stablemate Dancing Jack for apprentice Beaux Banovic-Edwards. Wolfe notched a double with veteran gallopers My Greek Boy and Chasing Chaos. After bouncing back to form with a third last start, eight-year-old My Greek Boy returned to the winner’s stall for the first time in 730 days after a tough victory in the TABtouch Better Your Bet Handicap (1500m). After settling third in running, My Greek Boy wore down leader Corporate Larrikin under the urgings of Peter Hall to win by 1.9 lengths. Wolfe bought up a double in the next race with nine-year-old Chasing Chaos, who also returned to some form. Chasing Chaos also had not won for 764 days but knuckled down to the challenge late in the 1500m event. Rogers leads the Great Southern Trainers’ Premiership with 22 winners and Wolfe remains in touch with 17.
