Lower Great Southern Hockey Association duo Laura Archer and Georgie Powis have been named in the WA Country women’s team that will compete at the 2017 Australian Country Championships in Queensland next month.

Earlier this month the final WA Country men’s side was named while an extended squad was named in the women’s before being finalised on July 13 under new coach Matt Corner.

Archer has been ultra-impressive for new women’s A-grade side Mt Barker this season and is among the final travelling team of 16 players.

Powis was not in the original released squad but after starring at the championships last season and going on to represent the Australian Country Women’s Team, the Tigers product has been called up to again pull on the WA colours.

Talented young Spencer Park goalkeeper Erin Trotter missed out on selection in the final side.

The duo join fellow LGSHA representative James Gonzales (Spencer Park) and Tambellup’s Leon Squibb who are part of the men’s side while Tigers goalkeeper Heath Cremasco is listed as a reserve.

The championships will be played in Townsville from August 11-19.
