It was a battle of the top two in the penultimate round of the Albany Junior Soccer Association under-15s competition last Saturday, with Polonia needing every-thing to go their way to stand any chance of catching Stirling Rangers at the top. Polonia have been very solid in the backline all season, with Milla Trichilo and Aaron Orr proving an ever-reliable duo and they were again dominant for long periods. Stirling Rangers frontline were just that little bit more clinical when chances arose, with Trichilo and Orr not allowing many. Louis Adebija and Mark Thompson scored one each to give Stirling Rangers a deserved half-time lead. Polonia had possession in the second half and searched for the goal they so desperately needed to get them back in the game, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. Pushing players forward allowed Rangers in, with Zeb Campbell scoring a third to put the tie beyond Polonia’s reach and guaranteeing them the title with a 3-0 victory. Albany Caledonian equalled their best result of a tough season when they drew with John Calvin 2-2. Meanwhile, Albany Bayswater beat Denmark 4-1 to secure third place on the table. Parklands were made to work hard to keep up their perfect record with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Denmark Black, who they will meet in the cup final in a couple of weeks. The Albany Diggers and Great Southern Griffins played out a 10-goal thriller. The match went goal for goal, with the two sides scoring five apiece to take a point each. ACC Southland were too strong for Yakamia winning 8-3. John Calvin and Denmark White couldn’t find the net in the first half and both sides put their scoring boots on at half-time, with John Calvin winning 4-3 at the final whistle. Meanwhile, Polonia Red wrapped up the under-14 league title on the back of a dominant victory over Rovers. Polonia Red put 13 goals past the Rovers’ defence on the way to their 13th win of the season, with a goal difference of 114. The undefeated side are nine points clear of their nearest rivals Denmark with one round left in the league season. In the other under-14 matches Denmark were big 9-0 winners against Stirling Rangers, Albany Bayswater produced a clinical display to beat Polonia White 8-1, and Great Southern Griffins got the better of John Calvin 5-2.
