Polonia confident they can defend both their league and Federation Cup titles when the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s premier competition starts next month

Polonia are confident they will again be a force in the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s premier competition this season, which starts next month. Polonia will be out to defend both their league and Federation Cup titles when the men’s season kicks off on July 17. They were crowned league champions last season after only losing three games before winning their first cup crown since 2015 when defeating Albany Rovers. Polonia resumed training last night in preparation for the new season. Assistant manager Rhett Marwick, who was part of the victorious team last season, said the side was brimming with excitement. “We are very confident in defending our league and cup titles,” Marwick said. “We had a great game against Rovers early in the year in the FFA Cup game, so we will go into the season with a fair bit of momentum. “We have only started training as of this week but I know a lot of the lads have been keeping their balls skills up to scratch with their own extra training.” Marwick confirmed there would be changes to their title-winning team but they were confident of remaining at the pointy end. “From my knowledge we have lost a few young guns to Perth and a few older fellas have dropped back a division or two. “With that said there is also a couple of new names I’ve seen on paper so it will be interesting to see how they go. “Very much the unknown on the season ahead without any knowledge on other clubs and how they have prepared.” Marwick will step back from playing premier league this season but is keen to pass on his knowledge to younger players. “No matter what sort of season it is the boys will go out and give 110 per cent like always and take every game as it comes,” he said. “The vibe among the fellas is really good and they’re just itching to get a run in this year.” Polonia’s junior teams along with their women’s and other men’s teams have also resumed training.
