Police warning about antisocial behaviour as cops prepare to be out in force over festive period

Albany’s top cop Hugh Letessier has called on people to enjoy their Christmas and New Year but not to overindulge and find themselves in trouble with the law. Sen. Sgt Letessier, the officer-in-charge of Albany police, confirmed they will be out in force over the festive period both on the roads and at popular tourist and entertainment spots. New Year’s Eve will be a particular focus for police in Albany and the wider Great Southern district. Sen. Sgt Letessier said all available officers will be on duty on December 31 and he reminded revellers to behave appropriately. “We will have everyone available rostered on for New Year’s Eve,” Sen. Sgt Letessier said. “Our officers will be on the beat patrolling the entertainment precinct and will be clamping down on any antisocial behaviour. There will be a heavy police presence around the licensed premises and the fireworks at Anzac Peace Park to ensure everyone is safe and enjoys the celebrations. “As a district we will be sending more police to Bremer Bay to assist with the celebrations out there.” Sen. Sgt Letessier hopes all Albany residents and those holidaying in the city have a happy and safe festive period. “Albany police want everyone to enjoy a safe and happy Christmas,” he said. “Be mindful of your behaviour when out celebrating and don’t overindulge. “Don’t spoil other people’s celebrations with antisocial behaviour. “Don’t hesitate to call the police if needed as there will be plenty of officers on duty over Christmas and New Year.”
