Denmark police are calling for information about an incident involving a series of small fires along Ocean Beach Road last month. Denmark police officer-in-charge Sgt Matt Hartfield said police wanted information and dash cam footage after eight fires were started along Ocean Beach Road between midnight and 1.30am on Sunday, October 31. “Someone has walked along Ocean Beach Road lighting small fires that burnt a couple of square metres,” Sgt Hartfield said. “We want to round that person up as we don’t want them doing that in Denmark.” Sgt Hartfield said eight separate ignition points had been identified near Weedon Hill Road. Denmark Volunteer Fire and Rescue crews were called out and extinguished the fires. “It had the potential to be quite bad if they didn’t attend,” Sgt Hartfield said. A 36-year-old Denmark man has been charged with lighting a separate fire at a house on Price Street one hour later. The man was charged with two counts of damaging property after allegedly damaging the front door of the house and setting the back fence on fire. Sgt Hartfield said there was not enough evidence to link the Price Street and Ocean Beach Road incidents. “We haven’t got a lot of information. We want the public’s help to see if anyone was driving there around that time, saw anything or knows anything,” he said. Anyone with information is asked to call Denmark police on 9848 0500.
