Denmark police are appealing for witnesses to a suspected arson attack on a car in Denmark in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The car was locked and left abandoned after being involved in a crash on South Coast Highway about 5pm on Tuesday but was set on fire less than 10 hours later.

Denmark Volunteer Fire and Rescue attended the scene at 2.15am and extinguished the blaze near the Denmark River Bridge, where the driver had earlier lost control and crashed down the embankment, police say.

Denmark police said the driver was admitted to hospital with minor injuries and the car had been secured. Police said the fire was suspicious and there were sign it had been rummaged through before being set alight.
