Police investigating after 11-year-old boy hit by car on children’s crossing outside primary school in Albany

An 11-year-old boy was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing outside Mt Lockyer Primary School on Wednesday, with police now investigating the incident. Police say a crash occurred on South Coast Highway in Lockyer about 2.35pm on March 6 involving an 11-year-old boy and a passing vehicle. The children’s crossing was set up outside the primary school and had a traffic warden on duty. The warden raised his flags and walked to the middle of the road, signalling for vehicles to stop. As a child crossed, the driver failed to stop and the car’s side door hit the child. The boy was taken to Albany Health Campus with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver is assisting them with their inquiries and investigations into the crash are ongoing. Albany officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Carlos Correia said the crash was a timely reminder to all motorists using the road near schools. “We are calling on all people to take adequate care on the roads, especially around schools,” Sen. Sgt Correia said. “Before or after school and near children’s crossing, please drive slowly and stay aware at all times to ensure our kids remain safe. “This could have been a lot worse and thankfully the boy is going to be OK.”
