A scrub fire closed roads and sparked a smoke alert in Albany on Friday.

Ten firefighting vehicles rushed to Le Grande Park in Orana about 11am in response to multiple triple-0 calls.

Members of the public had reported seeing smoke billowing from the bushland behind Coles supermarket.

The fire was attended by crews from Albany Fire and Rescue Service, Albany Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Highway Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and the City of Albany.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a smoke alert for Orana and McKail, asking motorists to turn their headlights on and drive slowly through the area.

Le Grande Avenue was closed between Carbine Street and Andorra Road.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 11.40am and extinguish it by 12.10pm.

It comes after a suspicious fire burnt through four hectares of bush on Mt Clarence on January 6, triggering a watch-and-act warning in the heart of Albany.

Two water bombers spent three hours helping firefighters get on top of the Mt Clarence fire.
