Police charge Albany man with driving offences after crashing through two homes and into another car

A 20-year-old Albany man has been charged with driving offences after allegedly crashing his car into another vehicle and through two properties in the early hours of November 6. Shocked residents awoke to a Ford Falcon that had crashed on top of another car near the intersection of Albany Highway and Wellington Street in Mt Melville. The blue Falcon crashed through a pedestrian rail, two fences, a hedge and a set of veranda stairs on neighbouring properties. It destroyed a carport on the second property and came to rest on top of a four-wheel-drive. Albany police have since charged a 20-year-old man with dangerous driving and excess 0.08 after the incident that left a trail of destruction more than 50m long. He is set to appear in Albany Magistrates Court on January 3. The man escaped injury with a St John WA spokesman saying at the time the driver was sitting down after freeing himself from the Falcon when paramedics arrived at the scene. SES volunteers used acrow props and made temporary repairs to make the properties safer before leaving at 4.40am.
