Platoon marks Battle of Long Tan

Shannon SmithAlbany Advertiser

Vietnam veterans from the 85th Transport Platoon spent the last week in Albany celebrating their 50th anniversary reunion, coinciding with the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966.

A commemoration ceremony was held at the National Anzac Centre for the Battle of Long Tan on Friday morning.

The emotional celebration began with a march by the veterans, gathering outside the centre for the ceremony immediately afterwards. More than 100 veterans and their partners had travelled to Albany from all over Australia to be together for the reunion, with a lunch on Wednesday and a final dinner on Saturday.

The guiding lights of camaraderie and friendship among the veterans, half a century on, shone brightly at each event.
