Phoenix, Royals and Old Boys claim silverware after spirited GSSA cup finals
Phoenix have secured the Great Southern Soccer Association league and cup double in superb fashion, easing past Bayswater with a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Two first-half goals opened up a sizeable advantage for Phoenix who added another in the second half as they cruised to a sensational GSSA men’s division two cup final victory.
Noah Vanderschaaf, Travis Plug and Nathan Pot all hit the scoresheet in the commanding result.
Elsewhere, two goals in the first half proved enough for Royals to outlast Polonia in the women’s division two cup final on Friday.
Lillian Cooper was the hero, scoring two timely goals in the first period to open up a comfortable advantage at the main break.
Despite a few chances going begging for either side, Polonia failed to find an equaliser in a tight second half with Royals holding on to record a gritty 2-0 win.
The victory means Royals have also secured the league and cup double after a dominant 11-win season in the women’s division two league competition.
In the men’s social-masters division cup final, Old Boys took on Bayswater in an entertaining affair on Saturday.
Goals to Will Blakeney and Will McDonald helped Old Boys get off to a blistering start.
However, Bayswater’s Kris Ericson hit the back of the net in the first half and Old Boys went into the break ahead 2-1.
Neither side could find a goal in the second half with Old Boys defending valiantly in the late stages to deny Bayswater an equaliser and lift the cup trophy aloft.
