Peaks bounce back from first defeat of season last week to easily account for North Albany in round five

Manypeaks bounced back swiftly from their first defeat of the season to bank three points in round five of the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade competition on Saturday. Peaks went down in the top-of-the-table clash to Spencer Park last week but were in no danger of a second straight loss this week, easily accounting for North Albany to notch a third triumph of 2021. The commanding five-goal victory also helped Peaks move two games clear in second spot. Returning player Mitch Bradbury starred in the victory as he netted a hat-trick. Bradbury scored the opening goal in the first quarter, while Tim Metcalfe also found the back of the net early on. Peaks continued their dominance across the remaining three quarters, with Bradbury netting the next two goals and Damen Guest getting on the scoresheet in the comfortable 5-0 win. Bradbury and Chris Metcalfe were superb in the win, while Daniel Smith battled hard in defeat for Redbacks. Reigning premiers Spencer Park continued their strong start to the new season, securing a fourth straight victory. Brock Keymer goaled in the second term before Mitch Dolan added Park’s second in the third stanza to ensure their side finished 2-0 winners over Vikings. Dolan and Keymer were the best players in the win while Andrew Hannig was best for Vikings in their fourth loss of the season. A brace from Beck Gallimore helped North Albany remain undefeated in the women’s A-grade competition. The reining premiers downed Peaks 4-0 as Tallulah Gouldthorp and Felicity Ericsson also found the back of the net to lift Redbacks to a third win of the season. Gallimore and Lauren Spinks were among the best in the win while Emma Wilson battled hard for Peaks. Meanwhile Georgina Lilford proved the hero in the Park and Mt Barker contest. Lilford netted the only goal of the match as Park replaced Mt Barker in second spot on the standings. Amy Collins was impressive in Park’s second win while Tara Simpson and Jessica McPartland toiled hard for the losing side.
