Albany Swim Club are confident of a strong showing at their major meet of the season after being put through their paces by dual Olympian Blair Evans at the weekend.

Their preparation for the 2016 SunSmart State Open and Age Long Course Championships, which began in Perth yesterday, included coaching clinics from Evans to fine-tune the club’s top swimmers.

ASC head coach Marshall McAleese said the visit from Evans, a London 2012 silver medallist, would hopefully put his swimmers in good stead for personal bests and progression into finals of their discipline.

“Blair is very good technically and being an IM (individual medley) swimmer, she is very sound in all of the strokes,” he said.

“She spoke to them about how she prepares and she will go through her whole race routine.

“It’s terrific motivation for them.

“We have a very good team going and our goal is to progress through the heats and swim in as many finals as possible.”

At the last championships, the team of nine swimmers who represented the club achieved a 39 per cent personal best ratio during the four days of competition.
