Old Mervs prove indie rock isn't going anywhere with record two inclusions on 2025 triple j Hottest 100 list

Kojonup two-piece Old Mervs are steadily cementing themselves as indie-alt mainstays on Australia’s charts, with two of their songs on the latest triple j Hottest 100 list.
Don’t Go swooped into the 2025 list at number 98, while Everyone Will See It locked in the 83rd position in the January 24 countdown.
Both songs by the surf rockers, comprising childhood friends David House and Henry Carrington-Jones, were included in their self-titled debut album released in March 2025.
The band are no strangers to triple j Hottest 100 success, with the album’s leading single What You’ve Lost coming in at spot 38 in the 2024 list and Sweetheart, locking down the 27th position, marking their first appearance on the coveted list in 2023.
However, the 2025 countdown was the first year the indie-rock outfit had two inclusions in the list.
“We’re stoked again,” the band told the Advertiser.
“It feels great to look back at the years now and think about listening to it as a young tacker!
“This year was one we weren’t looking overwhelmingly crazy for as it was the last of the album, so it was just a really nice bit of recognition from the fans really and it’s fair to say we appreciate them — they’re all time!”
The duo spent their Hottest 100 day performing the final show of their successful regional WA On a Truck tour at Dunsborough Football Oval, with a designated countdown listening area set-up for crowds to enjoy.
Old Mervs making the popular-vote list comes off the back of a highly successful few months, with the sold-out regional WA expeditions following a whirlwind European tour playing to crowds across France, Germany and the UK.

Breaking into the top 10 of Australia’s favourite songs of 2025 were Ball Park Music’s punchy plea Please Don’t Move to Melbourne (No. 10), club-pumper remix No Broke Boys by Disco Lines and Tinashe (No. 9), Sombr’s 80s synth-pop track 12 to 12 (No. 8), British songstress Olivia Dean’s Nice to each Other (No. 7) and beloved Perth quartet Spacey Jane’s Whateverrrr (No. 6).
The pointy end of the countdown was rounded out by RAYE’s bright chart-topper Where is my Husband!, (No. 5), cheeky bogan-funk hit Keith by Playlunch (No. 4), and Tame Impala’s grooving Dracula (No. 3).
Keli Holiday aka Adam Hyde aka one half of Peking Duk claimed the penultimate slot with Dancing2, while emerging neo-soul star Olivia Dean locked down the first position — and her fifth inclusion in the countdown — with the playful and jazzy pop-ballad Man I Need.
