OFA Round 14: Lake Grace-Pingrup hand Gnowangerup first loss of the year, Boxwood Hill surge past Jerramungup

Lake Grace-Pingrup produced the biggest upset of the year, defeating reigning premiers Gnowangerup by 31 points in round 14 of the Ongerup Football Association at Lake Grace on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs were undefeated this season and had won their past 21 games in the OFA, but the Bombers led at every change to record a confidence-boosting win over the top side. The Bombers led by 13 points at the main break and despite the Bulldogs firing back with two majors in the third quarter, the home side added four more to open up a three-goal buffer going into the final quarter. The visitors were held scoreless in the final term and the Bombers prevailed 15.6 (96) to 9.11 (65). Leighton Smith, Corey Ward and Tyson Prater were immense for the Bombers, while Lewis Davis, Fraser House and Ethan Caldwell provided most of the drive for the losing side. The result stitched up a top-two spot and a finals double chance for the Bombers, who will meet the Bulldogs in the second semi- final. In the other league fixture, a seven-goal haul from Jack Davis helped Boxwood Hill return to the winners’ list with a thumping 76-point win over Jerramungup at Boxwood. Davis, Bradley Joyce and Alex Baum were prolific in Boxwood’s fifth win of the season. Newdegate will host Boxwood in the final round of the regular season this Saturday and the Eagles will be at home against Lake Grace-Pingrup. Boxwood will face Newdegate in the first semi-final in the first week of finals on Saturday, August 27.
