Budding Great Southern hockey players will have the chance to brush shoulders with Hockeyroos and Perth Thundersticks stars when brothers Jake and Tom Harvie visit Albany on Saturday.

Jake Harvie has played 61 games for the Kookaburras scoring three goals, is a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and is in the squad for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Tom Harvie plays for the Perth Thundersticks and is part of the men’s national development squad.

The pair will run a clinic that focuses on exposing young hockey players to new skills, techniques and tactical knowledge through games and fun activities.

The talented brothers are calling on all under-9s from around the region to join them at Albany Turf on Saturday at 7.30am for an hour-long, jam-packed session with all equipment provided.

Kids will have the chance to walk away with State, WAIS, AIS and Kookaburras merchandise and ask questions about elite sports, travelling, high performance and preparing for international competitions.

Originally from Dardanup in the South West, Tom Harvie said the pair’s upbringing encouraged them to connect with regional areas around the State to promote the sport.

“Being country kids ourselves it is important to us to offer these clinics regionally where we can, as we know the constant expectations of parents to take their kids to Perth to be exposed to these sorts of things,” he said.

“We want to make the effort to make these opportunities accessible in regional areas.

“We are really hoping to share the opportunity with as many kids as possible as there may only be one opportunity to deliver a clinic like this in such a busy year.”
