Those who were best at embracing bogan pastimes like eating a can of beans from the tin or playing air guitar had the time of their lives at the Narrikup Sports and Community Group quiz last Saturday.
The Narrikup Hall was packed to the rafters for the Bogan Quiz Night which raised about $2000 towards Narrikup Place Plan projects.
A fiercely contested evening led to the Hasbeens, led by Erika Henderson, claiming the prestigious trophy, a pair of thongs attached to a wooden background.
The 90 places were sold out well before the event with master of ceremonies Chris Norton setting tests which included the bogan beans challenge, nite on the box, name that tune and general bogan knowledge.
The Hasbeens claimed victory with an impressive 70 points from a possible 110 with Izzy Draffehn’s Shire Bogans a close second on 66.
Bronya Lynch’s Mullet Mafia were proud winners of the wooden spoon with a distinctly bogan 24.5 points.
Wendy Miell, a volunteer organiser, said the event had been a great success and would run again next year.
“It went off like a frog in a sock,” she said.
“It was a night packed with laughs, friendly rivalry and plenty of Aussie humour.”
Backers of the night included Joe Galantino of Nutrien Harcourts and Mt Barker Cellarbrations.
The Narrikup Place Plan is a 10-year strategic guide adopted by the Shire of Plantagenet in 2024 to facilitate improvements to the town.
Its key areas of focus are preserving bushland, revitalising community hubs and vacant public spaces, and upgrading Turner Park and local sports grounds.
