My Greek Boy returns for Saturday showdown

Talented sprinter My Greek Boy will return to Albany on Saturday and race at Percy Spencer Racecourse for the first time since his victory in last year’s Fitzpatrick Plate.

The Steve Wolfe-prepared galloper will tackle a small field in the Amazing Albany Handicap (1230m) after six Saturday metropolitan starts since his win here last Easter.

My Greek Boy led all the way in the $75,000 Fitzpatrick Plate in May last year to defeat fellow local star Run Liam Run before running third on three occasions in city grade following that breakthrough.

This season’s $100,000 Fitzpatrick Plate (1200m) will be run as the feature on Ladies Day on February 11, with Wolfe’s intentions to again have his star sprinter primed for a second assault

Jockey Shaun McGruddy returns from holidays to partner the six-year-old gelding, who will carry 59.5kg and start from the outside of eight.

Last-start winners Long Knife, Naturaliste and Twisted Mountain are among the small field that My Greek Boy will encounter after his 13th placed effort, beaten 61/2 lengths at Ascot late last month.

Albany Racing Club’s sole Saturday meeting of the season has attracted strong fields despite Ascot also having a meeting on the same day.

A total of 104 initial nominations were received across the seven races.

The opening race on Saturday is set for 1.10pm with the last to jump at 5.07pm.
