The State’s top drops were relished and ranked at the 44th Wine Show of WA Awards in Mt Barker last week with the winners announced on Friday.

Taking out best wine of show was the Cherubino 2020 Margaret River chardonnay, which had earlier claimed the title of best white wine of show.

Cherubino Wines was also named the most successful exhibitor overall.

Best red wine of show went to Forester Estate for their 2019 lifestyle shiraz.

Flying the flag for the Great Southern, West Cape Howe Wines won the best other red varietal category for their 2020 tempranillo.

In the regional awards, Forest Hill Vineyard won best red wine from the Great Southern for their 2020 shiraz, and Capel Vale Wines won best white wine from the Great Southern for their Whispering Hill Riesling.

In total, 23 trophies were up for grabs across more than 40 classes of wine.

Rob Diletti, chief winemaker and owner at Castle Rock Winery, was the chief steward at the show.

“This is the only wine show that’s available for all WA producers and only WA producers,” he said.

“As well as being serious about judging wines, the event’s also a really great chance to network and talk.

“It’s a great opportunity to catch up with judges, producers and other people in the industry.”
