The brand new Jerramungup and Districts Motocross Club unveiled their new track last weekend with riders from across the Great Southern travelling to be part of the day.

A natural terrain track has been built on the old Needilup golf course following the merger of Jerramungup and Needilup Golf Clubs which left the land vacant.

JDMC secretary Claire Teale said the club was still in its infancy still but their inaugural event last Sunday was a success and attracted about 60 riders.

Ms Teale said there was a need to create a facility in the region for motocross as it is a sport growing in popularity.

“Our first event was very popular,” she said.

“We had local riders plus people from Cranbrook, Pingrup, Albany, Bremer Bay, Gairdner, Ongerup and Borden.”

“We had Mark Gill from Motorcycling WA come out to hold a coaching seminar which the attendees where then able to put into practice with the junior riders.”

The current course is flat and winding trail about 1.5km long but Ms Teale said the JDMC would like to develop the course, in consultation with their increasing membership, to include jumps and berms.

Ms Teale said the JDMC would like to host competitive motocross events once the club and track were ready.
