It is a celebration of all things science and technology for National Science Week at the Museum of the Great Southern.

Over the next fortnight, the museum will put on a series of special events to enlighten people on a range of intriguing topics.

Wave and renewable energy, the moon, Menang culture, and the humble frog are just some of the topics to be explored. Museum manager Catherine Salmaggi said museum staff were excited to be involved.

“The range of activities, events and exhibitions we have chosen for National Science Week represent an array of different subjects including art, science, exploration, and research,” she said.

“We want the community to learn something new, discover new aspects of the world and universe, and connect not only with the community, but the region we live in.

“We chose the activities that would interest a diverse audience, so those interested in natural science can listen to a specialist in the field of herpetology or go out on country with Menang elders, who will share cultural knowledge and traditional methods of custodianship of the natural environment.

“Artist Chelsea Hopkins-Allan is teaming up with photographer Lata Wright to bring us a fascinating and stunning exhibition and workshop on the microscopic view of moths and butterflies.”

Ms Salmaggi said there were scientists, researchers and historians working behind the scenes at WA’s museums to help people understand their State.

“Science often intersects with social and natural history and art and we’re continually providing programs, events, exhibitions and educational programs to bring that to life,” she said.
