Eyre Park’s public toilet will soon replaced by a more modern facility, with demolition work beginning this week.

Demolition of the ageing facility, located within the Middleton Beach park precinct near Garden Street, kicked off on Wednesday.

The concrete facility has both male and female toilets as well as accessible facilities but is noticeably worn down.

It comes as the City of Albany continues its program to “replace ageing infrastructure with modern, fit-for-purpose facilities.”

The new facilities set to replace the ageing structure features separate male and female toilets, as well as a universal access toilet — an inclusive, ambulant toilet for those with disabilities — and an adult change table.

Two portable toilets are available on site for the public to use while construction of the new facility proceeds.

Fencing will surround the area around the toilet demolition site until the end of August, when works are expected to be completed.

“We appreciate your patience while we deliver this important upgrade and apologise for any inconvenience during the works,” a city spokesperson said.
