The addition of mixed doubles and a teams event will be part of the second season of the Albany and Districts Tennis League which begins this Sunday.

After a successful first season, the six-leg league will again be run by On Court Tennis and Vincent Brochard, pictured.

The initiative was introduced last season to fill the void of regular competition tennis, especially in singles.

The mixed doubles and teams event plus a women’s B-grade competition will be introduced for the first time this season after the inaugural season consisted of male and female doubles and single matches.

Players earn points from each match they win and they go towards the end of season standings where there is $2500 up for grabs in prizemoney, including $450 for men’s and ladies first place.

In all, 45 players are expected to take to the court on Sunday from five different clubs.

The entire six-league series will be played at Lawley Park Tennis Club, kicking off on Sunday.

The first event will consist of men’s A-grade singles matches, men’s B-grade doubles and ladies’ A and B-grade doubles.

Les Bairstow will assist Brochard in running the league, which is supported by the Lower Great Southern Tennis Association.

Albany and Districts Tennis League organiser Brochard said he was looking forward to the second year of competition.

“We are very excited about the new season starting this weekend,” he said.

“We have plenty of new men B-grade players and the introduction of the women’s B-grade competition is fantastic.”

Play starts at 9am on Sunday.
