Merrifield smashes fourth title in row at Champions

Merrifield Park Tennis Club have continued their dominance of the Lower Great Southern Tennis Association’s Champions of Champions event, powering to an eighth title on Sunday.
Hosted by the Denmark Tennis Club, the end-of-season event attracted clubs from across the region, but it was Merrifield Park that came out on top.
The victory was Merrifield Park’s fourth title in a row and eighth in total since the event began in 2005.
Ross Truscott from Merrifield Park successfully defended his men’s singles title, winning all his matches to defeat runner-up Mark Wilsher from Emu Point Tennis Club. Emu Point junior Lily Wilsher won her first LGSTA singles title, producing a terrific performance to win an entertaining ladies’ singles final over Merrifield Park’s Jackie Brennan.
Merrifield Park pair Carl Turich and Les Bairstow recorded comfortable wins over all their opponents to claim the men’s doubles titlem with Sam Graham and Nelson Stanborough from Lawley Park Tennis Club finishing runners-up.
The ladies’ doubles was a tight affairm with Sam Lee and Eileen Bairstow (Merrifield Park) winning the title from Michelle Watson and Bec Jeffries of Emu Point.
Richard Piggott and Hermienne Tyler (Emu Point) proved too strong for Ken Pears and Nicky Thompson (Merrifield Park) in the mixed doubles final.
