Menang woman Megan Krakouer honoured as City of Perth citizen of the year

Great Southern Menang woman Megan Krakouer has been awarded the City of Perth Citizen of the Year award for 2023. Ms Krakouer received her nomination for her attention and efforts as the sole organiser of the national candlelight vigil “Justice for Cassius”. She travels all over Australia assisting in improving conditions in remote Aboriginal communities as a human rights advocate for First Nations Australians. Ms Krakouer also works extensively in the suicide prevention space to break down barriers and build anti-racist bridges. Award winners were recognised for their significant contribution to the community, leadership on a community issue that has resulted in the enhancement of life, positive change and, of course, inspirational qualities as a role model for the community. City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas acknowledged the important role community members play in the city. “It is important to shine a spotlight on people in our community who have made a difference through acts of kindness, bravery and selflessness,” he said. “We wouldn’t have the wonderful community we do if it wasn’t for the contribution of passionate citizens and neighbourhood community groups.”
