Classy half centuries to Royals duo Lorcan McNamara and Ryley Valli guided their team to a resounding round one victory in the Albany and Districts Cricket Association under-17s competition. Batting second against Denmark, McNamara made a damaging 69 not out from 58 balls, while Ryley Valli finished on 55 off 68 deliveries. The Magpies set the Lions 142 for victory at Collingwood Park and Ryley Valli had got his side off to a great start when he departed with the Lions at 2-89. The Lions surpassed the total four wickets down and went on to finish on 212 from 35 overs after Teague Valli added 26 in the middle order. Jed Schwarzbach and Jack Valley claimed two wickets each for the Magpies but they couldn’t stop the Lions. Magpies all-rounder Oliver Pluckhahn set the tone with the bat, making an impressive half century. Pluckhahn (53), Jed Schwarzbach (23) and Bailey Peacock (20) all made solid contributions for the Magpies but it wouldn’t be enough to post a match-winning total. Caleb Haua, Dylan Trigwell and Clay Michael all took two wickets for the Lions. Manypeaks hung on in a thriller against Railways, winning by six runs. Peaks set an imposing total of 6-217 thanks to an unbeaten 54 from Charlie Walters, 51 not out from Jack Stephens and 45 from Jonte Eastough. Henry Goldsmith claimed three scalps for the Tigers. In reply, the Tigers did everything they could to get over the line but fell just short, ending on 4-211. Mohit Jaggi and Troy McCahon combined in a strong partnership and finished with 51 not out and 46 not out respectively. Trent Herbert was the only multiple wicket taker for Peaks with two but his side clung on in a tight finish.
