McKail ‘mini alternative’ Christmas display hopeful Albany community will still support Cystic Fibrosis WA

The Albany community can still throw its support behind Cystic Fibrosis WA this Christmas with mum Zoe Sargeant stepping up while the team behind the annual Mueller Street light display take a well-deserved break. Ms Sargeant has decorated her modest McKail home in the hope that some of the donations normally collected at Mueller Street still find their way to the organisation that supports people with Cystic Fibrosis, like her daughter Ivy-Jane Smith. “Half of CFWA funding goes to research and the medical side of things, but they are quite good with the family support side of things,” she said. “Given the one at Mueller Street that’s usually a big fundraiser is not going ahead this year, we just wanted to do a mini alternative for anyone that still wanted to support the organisation.” About 60 cars came through to look at the lights and make donations at the display’s first weekend on December 1 and 2. Ms Sargeant said it had been mostly kids and families from Ivy-Jane’s school showing support on the first weekend. “Ivy quite likes having the spotlight on her and it’s been very exciting for her,” she said. “Some of the kids from the street have been coming out at night to collect donations with her as well.” Donations will be collected at 84 Radiata Drive again this weekend on Friday and Saturday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and then every night from Friday, December 15 through to Christmas Eve.
