Mason Ernest Brett Cole fined for stealing nearly $2000 worth of sex toys from Albany adult shop to ‘pay rent’

A 34-year-old man stole nearly $2000 worth of sex toys from an Albany adult shop which he sold to “pay rent”. Mason Ernest Brett Cole appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday pleading guilty to stealing $1854.75 worth of sex toys. Police prosecutor Sergeant Alan Dean told the court Cole entered The Adult Shop in Centennial Park about 2.30pm on May 6. He selected several items and placed them on the counter. Cole then asked the shop attendant to fetch something from the back of the store, during which time he placed the items in a red bag and left. Representing himself in court, Cole told Magistrate Dianne Scaddan at the time of the offence he was between jobs and “had to pay rent”. “They were worth money — I sold them,” he said. Ms Scaddan said while it was a “potentially opportunistic” incident it involved “some degree of sneakiness”. “It was fairly brazen in nature,” she said. He was fined $1500 and ordered to pay compensation costs of $1854.75.
