Martin announced as guest speaker for awards

Perth Wildcats captain Damian Martin has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 2017 Wellington and Reeves Albany Sportsperson of the Year Awards next week.

The gala presentation and dinner will be held at Centennial Stadium on Friday, March 23, recognising Albany’s sporting stars of 2017.

The awards, sponsored by Albany Advertiser, are in their 45th year of recognising the outstanding performance and overall contribution of local athletes to their sports.

Winners will be announced in junior, senior and veteran categories before an overall winner is judged Albany sportsperson of the year.

The appearance of Martin is a major coup for the awards night, coming fresh from the Wildcats’ disappointing season end to the Adelaide 36ers at the semifinal stage of the NBL season.

Tickets costing $70 are on sale at Paperbark Merchants and include entry and a two-course meal and canapes, as well as the chance to hear Martin speak about his decorated career.
