Manypeaks take game to the wire but fall short in the final over against ladder leaders Mt Barker

Mt Barker held off a strong challenge from Manypeaks, to notch a tense 11-run victory in round 10 of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association A-grade competition on Saturday. The Bulls remain well clear on top of the ladder after registering their seventh one-day win of the season but didn’t secure the result until the final over of the match. Peaks required 12 to win off the final over at Turf North, with veterans Ryan Kinnear and Jeremy Stewart at the crease. Left arm seamer Steven Scott was thrown the ball and it paid off as Kinnear bunted a ball straight back to Scott for a simple caught and bowled with the first ball of the 50th over to secure the win. The Bulls posted 205 batting first and Peaks appeared to be in trouble at 6-140 after the dangerous Seb Stanton was bowled for an impressive 64 from 98 balls. Kinnear and Ethan Drew pulled their side back into the contest with a 31-run stand before Drew was run out with Peaks still requiring 35 to win. Jack Stephens (6) and Aran Tilbury (6) fell cheaply but after Tilbury departed they needed just 14 runs to win from 10 balls with one wicket in hand. Noah Middleton bowled the 49th over which went for only six runs after a boundary from the first ball. With the game on the line Scott snared the final wicket, finishing with 3-36 from 9.1 overs. Alex Fergie (2-34) and Middleton (2-40) also snared multiple wickets. Earlier on the Bulls innings was anchored by a terrific half century from Neil Ferreira. The Bulls fell to 4-82 before Ferreira and Scott (28 runs) helped steady things for their side with a 54-run partnership. When Ferreira was dismissed the Bulls were 7-185 but they surpassed 200 thanks to a handy contribution from Jonte Eastough (17no). Ferreira hit 10 fours in his knock of 81 from 104 balls before being trapped lbw by Stewart. Youngster Charlie Walters was impressive with the ball, claiming 4-40 off eight overs, while Paul Donaldson finished with 2-30 and Kinnear chipped in with 2-35.
