Manypeaks hold on to move past winless Railways in round five of ADCA season

A clinical bowling performance guided Manypeaks to a convincing victory over Railways in round five of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association on Sunday. The three-wicket victory helped Peaks move up to second spot on the ADCA ladder, winning their second game in as many weeks. Despite a classy knock of 91 by Tigers captain Coen Marwick, Peaks ran through the rest of the Tigers batting line up before chasing down their total in the second innings. Milan Jaggi was the first to go, caught off the bowling of James Bottomley before Billy O’Meara was skittled by Bottomley shortly after. When Kane Pinney claimed the wicket of Mohit Jaggi for 11, the Tigers were 3-73. Marwick and Alan Pietersen got things going with a 64-run stand before Pietersen was dismissed for 22. Charlie Cousins sought to forge another partnership with Marwick but both batters were removed in quick succession leaving Lachlan Tindale and Mitchell T’Hart at the crease within the space of four balls. With the score at 6-147, the Tigers’ final four wickets fell for just 11 runs and they were bowled out for 158. The Peaks’ run chase got off to a rocky start with opener Kieran Howie (4) bowled by the in-form Marwick, Pinney falling for 11 and Ethan Drew dismissed by T’Hart. With Peaks struggling at 3-29, opener Regan Poett combined with veteran Paul Donaldson to steady the ship, putting on a 73-run stand to restore order after a frantic start. Peaks were on the attack as Donaldson hit two sixes and a four in the 23rd over before he was knocked over by Marwick four overs later. Mohit Jaggi claimed his first scalp when he removed Bottomley for one before taking Poett’s wicket five runs short of his half-century. T’Hart dismissed Trent Poett (6) as Peaks stumbled to 7-131 but a composed 28-run stand from Cameron Walsh and Kinnear got them home with three wickets to spare. Peaks’ Kinnear returned impressive bowling figures of 5-30 off 8.3 overs including one maiden, while Bottomley took 2-22 off six overs. Marwick’s sparkling innings of 93 runs was complemented by solid bowling figures of 2-21 and he was well supported by Mohit Jaggi (2-23) in the loss. The highly anticipated clash between Mt Barker and Royals was rescheduled to February 12 due to the absence of Nathan Crudeli and Jeremy Wood who were on Country XI duties.
