Police have charged a 35-year-old man with committing a series of late-night burglaries in Albany’s CBD last month. Between midnight on February 17 and 4am on February 18, six businesses were allegedly burgled on Collie Street, Grey Street West and York Street. Although no items of high value were reported stolen, Albany police believed the incidents were linked. In the early hours of February 28, police stopped a vehicle in Albany while actively patrolling, suspecting the driver could help with their inquiries. The driver, a 35-year-old Spencer Park man, was charged with no authority to drive, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and possession of a thing to assist unlawful entry to a place. After further inquiries, police charged him in relation to three of the six alleged burglaries in the CBD on February 17-18. He was charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of stealing. The man is due to face Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday. Albany police say they are still investigating the alleged CBD burglary spree and further charges could be laid.
