Albany Detectives have charged a Centennial Park man in relation to a number of bushfires lit along Albany Highway, between Dwellingup and Kojonup earlier this month.

The 44-year-old man has been charged with two counts of wilfully lighting a fire likely to injure or damage.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Albany Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 14 February 2017.

The fires were seen burning on Wednesday February 8, between 12:30pm and 4:15pm along Albany Highway.

Several police vehicles from the Great Southern District were deployed along the highway and a suspect vehicle was identified.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was spoken to.

Further investigation was undertaken and the driver of the vehicle that was stopped at the time of the bushfires was arrested Monday February 13.
