Timothy Beches: Charged and remanded in custody for alleged York Street stabbing

A 30-year-old man has been charged after allegedly stabbing a man on Albany’s York Street on Tuesday afternoon, with the community assisting police with his arrest. Timothy Curtis Beches, 30, appeared in custody in Albany Magistrates Court last Wednesday on one charge of unlawful wounding and one charge of being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear. The incident unfolded about 2.05pm on the footpath outside St John’s Anglican Church last Tuesday. Police will allege words were exchanged between the two men, who they say were known to each other, before Mr Beches allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim once. The victim walked into a nearby shop and police were alerted to the incident soon afterwards. The victim was taken to Albany Health Campus by St John under lights and sirens. His injuries are not life-threatening and he is in a stable condition. Mr Beches did not make a bail application during his court appearance. Albany OIC Carlos Correia said the 30-year-old man was arrested after members of the community provided information to assist with inquiries. He said the accused was charged last Tuesday night and there was no ongoing danger to the community. Mr Beches was remanded in custody and will next appear in Albany Magistrates Court on May 2.
