Spencer Park Hockey Club will not field a women’s A-grade team in this year’s Lower Great Southern Hockey Association competition. Nominations for the shortened 10-week season closed on Saturday, with the LGSHA receiving four nominations for the men’s and women’s A-grade competitions. Spencer Park, who won the women’s A-grade title in 2018, did not to nominate a team after a lack of interest from players. Reigning premiers Manypeaks, runners-up North Albany, Mt Barker and Vikings have all nominated for the women’s A-grade competition. All four men’s teams from last season — North Albany, Spencer Park, Manypeaks and Mt Barker — have also signalled their intent to play in the 2020 season. LGSHA president Alex Bott said there will be a meeting in the next few days to confirm team nominations across all grades. “We haven’t received a nomination for Spencer Park in the women’s, but four teams is enough to run a competition,” he said. “It looks like it will be four teams in both the men’s and women’s comp and every senior grade will be running. “We’re keen to get everyone participating in a season. “With more and more restrictions being lifted, the season is gaining more attraction and everyone is starting to get in the mood.” Bott confirmed that the LGSHA was in the process of putting together a set of preliminary fixtures.
